FROM THE PASTOR…
February and March were difficult months for us personally. We had our 40th wedding anniversary, which was hard to believe, and we had our entire family here that week as well. It was amazing! But a week earlier my daughter told me that the baby’s heartbeat had stopped. My new/third grandchild was dead. She called me on the phone to let me know and I tried my best to comfort her but it was extremely hard. After I hung up the phone I put my head in my hands and cried on and off the rest of the day.
I began questioning and telling God that it just didn’t make sense. All of the aborted babies each year and He allows my grandchild to die in the womb. I was angry. Why did He take the baby and why didn’t I get to see my grandchild? God answered! The little baby was with Him, the best, most wonderful, most beautiful place imaginable. And then He said that I would see the baby, one day when I am with Him in heaven. That’s when I broke down and cried tears of joy. The promises of God allow us to go through anything, even death. The good news is we have hope in Him. That’s the good news and one day we will discover just how great He is. “Greater is He who is in me than he who is in the world.” I John 4:4

Acts 17 describes Paul speaking about God to the people of Athens in front of — incredibly! — a site that still exists. What is that site?
A. The Panathenaic Stadium
B. The Areopagus
C. The Acropolis and the Parthenon
D. The Temple of Hephaestus
All through the year we need bottles of water. We use them on Wednesday nights, in food boxes, during VBS, and other special events such as reaching out to the community during neighborhood walks. We encourage everyone to donate a case of water, including cases of 8 oz bottles, throughout the year. Now is the time to build our supply for VBS. We can pass out up to 100 bottles or more nightly. If you can’t purchase a case, you can make a donation for water by marking your offering envelope “Food Pantry Water” or “VBS Water” and it can be purchased for that purpose. See Carla P., Angie D. or Rachel O. regarding questions about Food Pantry water and Joy B. or Deb J. for VBS water.

When we can’t find Easter
Easter is the most joyous Christian holy day … except when it’s not. What do we do when our mood isn’t what we think it “should” be? The kids are sugared up, we’re juggling family gatherings (and maybe conflicts), our everyday challenges remain, and festive hymns — however rousing — fail to lift our spirits. We wonder, “What’s wrong with me, that I can’t seem to find Easter?”
Been there, done that. And it’s okay. You’re okay.
Jesus’ resurrection doesn’t scoop us out of our troubles, but the death-defying Christ walks through them beside us, on our own Emmaus road (Luke 24). We aren’t alone. When we can’t find Easter, Easter somehow finds us — if not on this designated Sunday, perhaps two days from now, or next week or mid-May. Watch for it; keep your heart open. Christ is risen indeed — and you shall be too.
On April 30, following our 5th Sunday Worship Service, there will be a potluck in the Fellowship Hall. There is a sign-up sheet on the bulletin board for types of food to bring. See Carla P., Angie D. or Deb J. with any questions.
Do you know someone with a background in music or that plays the piano? If they are interested in the WGBC music ministry, please contact Pastor Don or the Personnel Ministry Team so we can fill these vacant positions.
Our annual egg hunt outreach will be held on Wednesday, April 12, 2017 at 6:00 pm. A sign-up sheet is posted in the church foyer.
We need to fill 1,000 plastic eggs as soon as possible. If you can take some home to fill, please let us know.
Donations of candy are needed. We need sandwiches, individual bags of chips, cases of water and cupcakes.
We need at least 3 people to hide eggs at 5:00 pm. Kitchen help to serve is needed. Of course, we need adults to clean up afterwards.
Please park in the back parking lot if possible. If you have any questions , see Joy B. or Deb J. Thank you for helping with this outreach.
